Who’s all seen Observe and Report?
I’ve changed my blog schedule thanks to the Trayvon Martin case. For anyone who’s been asleep the past few weeks, a neighborhood watch captain shot an unarmed black teenager in Florida and claimed self-defense. As more information comes out, it looks more and more George Zimmerman was a cop wannabee itching for a chance to shoot a criminal, so he chased and jumped someone for looking suspicious (read: being a young black man in a hooded sweatshirt), then shot him for fighting back. This was after the police said to back off and let them handle it. This brings us to Observe and Report. It’s a movie about a mall security guard who seems a lot like Mr. Zimmerman in many ways. It was highly controversial, both in the sense of outraging the moral guardians and having a lot of dispute about what it was supposed to mean. Specifically, there was a lot of dispute over whether it was celebrating and/or excusing this sort of behavior or condemning society for encouraging it. Have you seen it? What did you think?
